Lying Out Loud was so freaking cute! Sonny is a liar. She can't help it. When things aren't going her way, she lies to get out of it. It's not just the little things, like why she's late for class for the billionth time. Sonny is also lying to her best friend, Amy, about getting kicked out of the house, and having to live with her. Then there's Ryder, the hottie new kid who's a total snob and hipster. He has an unrequited crush on Amy, so Sonny steps in. Only, she ends up liking him, and they chat all night. But Ryder thought it was Amy, so Sonny is caught up in a lie she didn't mean to tell.

Lying Out Loud is pretty much an adorable hate-to-love, mistaken identity type Romance. And there's so much banter! Sonny and Ryder bicker constantly in class and shoot dirty looks, but then at night online, they pick on each other but in a flirting way. They also talk about real stuff, then go back to the jokes when things get too much. They are absolutely perfect for each other! Except for the whole Ryder thinking she's Amy rather than herself. Their interactions are just too freaking cute.

The only thing I didn't like about Lying Out Loud was Amy. This girl has zero personality. It's said a few times that Sonny is the loud one and Amy is the quiet one, but Amy is so quiet that she might as well not even be there. She's basically a prop. Quiet people have personality traits other than shy and quiet! It would have been nice to see a different side to Amy when she's home with Sonny, but even then she doesn't say much unless prompted by Sonny or the plot.

Overall, Lying Out Loud was a fantastic read! I loved Sonny even though she was a liar. She didn't mean to hurt anyone. She just finds it easier to make up something than tell anyone what's really going on with her. Of course, she does have to make amends when all of the lies blow up in her face.

Really enjoyed it. Another book which encourages us to really look out for our teenagers as we never know what they may be going through.
I really liked this book! It was a great book on it's own & what made it even better was there you got a look at what Bianca and Wesley were up to a couple years later. Another bonus was having a A Midsummer's Nightmare blend into it too! All in all, this book was pretty amazing. (
A little far fetched, but the characters are engaging and the writing is smart and funny. The characters are imperfect - but lovingly so - their responses are plausible, they have heart. Pleasant afternoon escape - thumbs up.
I was really into the story. It was a nice teenage love story .But then just as I felt a all the angst wrapping up, the story just ended. There was no real closure. Didn't like that at al. Is this a ploy to get more no st out of a sequel. This first e-book was expensive enough.
As a follow up to The DUFF, this story was lacking in most every way. The protagonist behaved in a manner consistent with complete abandon and disrespect for everyone around her, which made her a not so sympathetic character. I rolled my eyes one too many times while reading this book for me to rate it with anything more than one star.
I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. I actually liked this book more than The Duff. I found myself so involved in Sonny's life. I cared about the way she was messing up her relationships, I worried about her, my heart ached when it came to her family, my heart soared when something good happened to her. She was, by no means, a perfect character. In fact, Sonny was very, very flawed. However, she had a good heart and she never meant for things to play out they way they did. I loved that Keplinger allowed us to catch back up with Bianca and Wesley. That is one of my favorite things about companion books -- that opportunity to see what happened after the story ended. I hope to meet more of the residents of Hamilton
Lying Out Loud is more about friendship than it is about romantic relationship and I loved that. Sonny and Amy are thick and thin BFF's and there are some issues that pop up that they have to work through and I love that not only does Lying Out Loud showcase a strong friendship but it shows that sometimes you have to work through things to keep that friendship going, it's not always easy.

The ending was so freaking good and perfect in the way that endings should be (not everything is tied up in a bow for the characters), but the rest of the book wasn't as spectacular. It was still good, but not quite as good as The DUFF. Sonny was quite frustrating at times (girl just tell the truth, ok) and that made it hard to like her (and probably why I didn't like this as much as The DUFF).
4 Platypires for Lying Out Loud by Kody Keplinger

I am a huge fan of Kody Keplinger and have enjoyed all of her books. So I was pretty excited to get my hands on Lying Out Loud her latest YA novel. No big surprise that I enjoyed this book as well. I really do enjoy Keplinger writing style and her ability to write realistic teen dialogue without looking like she's talking down to her readers. Plus she has the ability to also connect with her older adult readers by referencing 90s/80s pop culture. The blend makes for a very unique book and kudos for making that happen.
While I did enjoy Lying Out Loud it just isn't my favorite by Keplinger. So far I think that title goes to Duff. While I did like the cameos from the other books in Lying Out Loud. I just wish the characters in this book had more personality. I just thought the male lead Ryder could have been more interesting. He was sorta of bland. BTW I did like that the male lead was a hot person of color. YAY! Wish more books did that and again its a reflection of Keplinger way of connecting with her teen readers.
Overall I found Lying Out Loud to be fun interesting read that actually had me laughing and loud but also pulled those emotional heart strings.
I would recommend this book for fans of YA.
