Tides of Honour Genevieve Graham Books
Disclaimer first: Five years ago I wrote a book (Stop the Insanity: Target 2014) and Genevieve Graham helped me by editing it. She did a great job and the fact that it did not sell very well is 100% on me. I recently contacted Genevieve to ask her to help edit a new book I have written (Mankind's End) but found she no longer does editing since she is so busy with her own writing. That intrigued me so I asked her about her books and which one she would recommend I read. I promised a review IF I LIKED IT and not to review if I didn't. To make a long story semi-short I did like it very much! This is certainly not the kind of book I normally read, I'm much more into mystery and action novels. However to keep my word I read it and found the story very interesting and the embedded historical facts quite informative. The writing is excellent, not surprising based on my previous interaction with Genevieve, and the characters very easy to identify with and to care for.
What I liked most was that although it was not an "anti-war" book it did cause me to think a lot about the cost of war, not just the dollar cost but the emotional and physical cost to the participants. We can read about the billions and billions of dollars spent on the Iraq war, the war in Afghanistan, etc. but the true cost if we add in the damage to our troops and the long term medical costs to help repair the damage is many times the amounts quoted. On the other hand the 'benefit' of the wars is relatively trivial if there is any benefit at all. How much benefit do you suppose we got out of the war in Iraq? Out of the ongoing war in Afghanistan? Or any other war? Other than the profits of the military industrial complex I'm hard pressed to think of anyone who does benefit.
Anyway, as I was saying Genevieve's book caused me to thing a great deal about that because of what her hero and heroine want through. While it was fiction it described quite well a very small part of why it is said that War is Hell.
I would recommend reading this book to anyone who enjoys a very well written novel with an interesting storyline and a subject that will most likely make you think a bit..

Tides of Honour Genevieve Graham Books Reviews
Very well written, excellent story, couldn't put it down!
Loved this book. Love this author! Historical fiction is my favorite. Great story. Great history.
May be one of favorite books I have ever read ! I fell so in love with the characters and the writing is so beautiful and descriptive. Just read it !!!
A coming go age story told against the backdrop of World War I, France, London and the coast of Nova Scotia. The author takes you along for a bumpy ride while the two main characters learn to trust their each other. I learned a bit of how the war effected those living in Halifax during that period. A satisfying read.
I really enjyed this book. It's a love story but well written. It's not all mush. The author included a lot of facts about the Halifax exlosion of 1916. I had just read another book about this explosion so this book urther elaborated on this terrible accident. But not so much that the love story was lost. In the tragedy. I had a hard time putting it down. Good bedtime reading.
I liked the topic - a discussion of a forgotten piece of history. And the hero and heroine were likable and believable. The author doesn't quite have the flow of her narrative down in my opinion. It was a bit choppy. Overall a good read.
Characters are well-developed, enough pertinent character background is presented to vette purpose within the plot line. Historical events presented seem to be well-researched, and addition to the story is presented very well. Very believable actions and reactions of the characters to events that unfold. Well presented rounding out of history.
Personal review Fabulous story, centered around little known historical events. World War I is a page in history that has not been oft included in the historical fiction genre, so this is a fabulous addition. My husband also read "Tides of Honour" (even though this genre is not his usual preference), and actually enjoyed it; imagine my shock that I actually picked a book that we can both agree on!! His only critique is that some of the action scenes, especially "in the trenches" could be expanded a bit so as to give smoother transition to the next scene shift. He appreciated the characters and story line tremendously. This book is a dual-keeper. (In our home library, we have a "Her Books" section, a "His Books" section, and a section for those authors that we both read and enjoy more than one read.
Product was packaged well, although packing slip was not enclosed. Shipped and delivered on time.
