Inside Inside Out\Outside In An Inside Novel Maria V Snyder Books

Inside Out is a dystopian novel set inside a large metal cube. Society is divided into the uppers and the lowers, with the lowers having the least desirable jobs and treated more like livestock then anything. The Uppers are the people that live in the upper levels of the cube. Uppers and lowers are kept separated and neither really knows much of anything about the other; unless you’re a member of the family that runs population control.

Our main protagonist Trella does not really think there is anything on the outside and gets drug into a dangerous situation to prove that a “prophet” called Broken Man is lying. As she continues to search for the truth things get more heated and more lies come to light. In the end everything they know gets turned on its head.

Right from the start I got a Nineteen Eighty-Four feel. We have the Pop Cops and the mysteries “Controllers” that are an allegory for invasive government. The Pop Cops control with an iron fist and “recycle” any person they deem a problem; they define problem loosely.

Maria Snyder has always been a fairy good world builder and that is evident in this story. You really know what the Inside looks like without the descriptions bogging the story down. The character development is on par with what you’d except from a Snyder novel and I have no complaints there.

I did have a couple of problems with this book and Inside Out certainly is not one of my fav Snyder books. I thought it was a little on the slower side; It went along at a steady clip but I wouldn’t call it fast paced. One of the problems I had with Inside Out was I had a hard time believing the Pop Cops let Broken Man live after they had paralyzed him. He was exiled to the lower levels in a wheel chair but with the extreme population control that is enforced it would have made more sense for them to recycle them; our plot needed him to get the story going though.

I also had a problem towards the end where Trella, who has crawled all over this space and knows about nooks and crannies people never even thought existed, finds a massive expansion space for the population to expand into that she’s never discovered before. I just didn’t find this believable.

All in all if you liked Nineteen Eighty-Four I think there is a good chance you’ll enjoy this novel. It was written for teens originally; the language is not challenging, there is no sexual content and what violence there is was not graphic. Many adults will enjoy this story; even though our protagonist was roughly 17 the content matter is not immature.

Inside Inside Out\Outside In An Inside Novel Maria V Snyder Books Reviews

Characters are fantastic. I love that they aren't perfect. Love story was what I like. All together a great read. Will I read it again? Oh yes indeed.
Good YA, interesting concept. I like that it's 2 books in one. Not my favourite by this author, but was still entertained. Neat twists, might make claustrophobics with strong imaginations (hi!) a little uncomfortable at times
I first read Maria V. Snyder's Poison study books and really really enjoyed them. I wasn't sure about this book because it didn't sound as adventurous as the other series - but boy I was wrong. If you like Maria's books I would recommend this duo as well. I got to a certain point of the books and couldn't put them down!!
As normal, Maria Snyder delivers. I enjoyed this book first because it was a 2 novel book in one and second because Maria Snyder just pulls you in. Her first YA novel is Inside Out, the first novel. **spoiler** It was great until I finally figured out that they were in a space ship. I guess I'm dense, but I couldn't figure it out until way late-after the scene of them going out the space door and the main character almost died. Other than that, I could figure it all out..
So far I've loved ALL her books. This one was different, but equally well-written as all the others. She has a way with interesting characters, creating a good story and then follow through. The story connects and you never have to wonder what happened to logic ;) With this book/these books (this is a two-in-one) she has created a world where everything has changed and the people we meet are living with the consequences. Human nature is still the same, though, good and bad.

I would recommend this to anyone who likes good suspense, a great story, really good characters and a book that makes you think and that stays with you. It is fiction and it is future based, but it's not so far fetched. Unfortunately, as the world they're living in isn't all that great. But we do like a silver lining ;)
I have enjoyed everything that Ms. Snyder has written. Inside is just as well written as the rest of her books. Trella is brave and clever the rest of the the scrubs call her the well earned nickname queen of the pipes. Trellas world is divided the uppers and the scrubs both factions resent each other. They must learn to come together and forget their differences before their way of life is destroyed. This twisty tale will has great surprises and relatable main characters. This book is great for young adults and adults.
INSIDE OUT
The reviews I'd read for this book has made it sound like it was too straight forward and boring so I'd hesitated to read it for quite a while. I now regret reading those reviews lol. Sure, there's some predictability to the story, but the setting is unique enough to set it apart. The author managed to write a captivating tale where the earlier stereotype prejudice is quickly dismantled.

OUTSIDE IN
A solid second book in the Insider series. After leading the great revolution, Trella is ready for a break. As she steps back from her duties and lets others take charge, she momentarily lives in a deluded world where everything is better. Very rapidly, she realizes that Inside is not without flaws. As she fights against new rebels, she will need to decide who to trust. Past allies mean nothing in the fight for control of Inside.
The author has written a great sequel and succeeded in a way few sequels ever manage to do. The action is constant and you wonder how Trella manages to ever survive with so little sleep. There are twists and turns at at each turn of the page that will keep you on your toes guessing which rebel faction truly has Inside's best interest at heart.
