This book was so unexpected - in a good way! When I read the description of the story I thought it would be a good light read for me. A nice break from the heavily angst ridden rock stars, billionaires, bad-boy, and alpha-male characters I seem to come across constantly. The characters were deeper and had more depth than many adults I have met in life. The characters are in high school but that did not dissuade me from relating to them. At some point in our lives we have to figure out where we stand within our immediate families. Mia and Ryan had to navigate the torrential waters of High School all while falling in love and figuring out the direction of their lives after high school. It would have been easy for Mia to lose herself in hot guy Ryan but I admired her courage to admit to herself and Ryan that she needed to take care of her own life before she would be any good with him. I felt her struggle throughout the book and was rooting for the couple hoping for their own Happily Ever After. What struck me about this story was its hidden depth of emotions. I am looking forward to reading more from this author!Product details

I didn't have any expectations going in and was surprised at how good this book was. Strong, independent characters all around and the treatment of the issues was real and fair, not melodramatic nor oversimplified. I always say a hallelujah when I encounter a YA book not centered on a female doormat character and will say it again here. I liked how Mia had a strong sense of self, even if she wasn't completely sure what that was just yet. It's too rare to encounter a YA female character that stops to think about what the relationship is doing to her. I thought Ryan's voice rang true, like you would totally believe this is an 18 y.o. male, rather than a female author's version of an 18 y.o. male. The secondary characters were fabulous, not one-dimensional. One minor negative the typos. But I'm on the anal retentive side on that issue. All in all, a highly recommend.
Mia was rule follower that wanted desperately to be the perfect model child her parents demanded. Somehow she thought that would make them happy and keep the family together. Ryan was a free spirit that's been in love with Mia for quite sometime. When the opportunity presented itself, Ryan was finally able to make his move to make Mia his. To say that was an uphill battle would be an understatement. Between the collapse of her family and the issues surrounding that and the pressure of what it takes to be a perfect student and daughter, Mia was scared and confused. This was a cute read that had enough moments that kept me intrigued although it was a bit boring in the beginning. I found that as the story went along, time was going by quickly in between events and weren't allowed to develop as much as I hoped for. Something would happen and the next chapter would begin weeks if not more later. That made their relationship seemed rushed a bit. Things happened during those gaps that I felt would have made the story more fulfilling. I did enjoy the fact that the characters were presented as real high school seniors for the most part (IMO) and not seniors that act like they were still in elementary. Overall I enjoyed it and would read more from Kristen Kehoe.
I have been waiting for this story to be released. I read the excerpts at the end of Finding You and on Kristen Keheo's website. I really liked the book. I think the cover is really nice. I thought Ryan Murphy and Mia Evans were great characters. I thought Ryan was funny and sweet. It was cute that Ryan would get tongued tied around Mia. He had a good relationship with his little sister Caitlin. Ryan was not perfect though. After Mia's brother left home, she tried to please her parents and be the perfect daughter. It really started to wear on her. I liked the incorporation of the running in the story. Mia's was trying to run away from her problems. In a way, her nightly runs were therapeutic for her.I think the story felt realistic. There was no love triangle which was a plus. I liked that Ryan had a stable home life as a contrast to Mia's unstable home life. Also, I liked that Ryan did not have some tragic past.I felt that Ryan and Mia were good together. He helped Mia to loosen up a bit. Mia helped him get a little more focused. Just reading about Mia's strict schedule was a little exhausting. She had hardly any free time. She all these extracurricular activities, she worked at her families hotel, she tutored etc.... Also, I liked a lot of the other characters like Nina, Max, Caitlin, Joe, Lilly, Josh, Ethan,Cora, and Ryan's parents etc.... I did not like Ryan's ex girlfriend. I wish that there would have been a scene where Ryan was introduced to Mia's Mom. I want to know what Mia's Mom's reaction would be to meeting Ryan. I felt the story ended nicely. I still had some question in the end like, How did Joe's Dad react when he came home? Did the situation get any better with Mia's Dad? Did Joe end up going to college? Etc... Overall, it was a nice story.
This is Mia's story. She grew up in a house with an overbearing mother and an absent father. Trying her best to be the perfect child so that her parents will be proud of her. In walks her across the street neighbor, Ryan. He needs a tutor, but he's also been obsessed with her since her family first moved in. Their story is sweet, cute, and kind of hard. It's not all rainbows and butterflies, but there are some real feelings. Some real issues. Mia stops running long enough to figure out what she wants, looking beyond the horizon into her future.
